Ping Pong anyone?

Walking up to a friend the other day and she asks how are you?…to which I reply Excellent! She then goes on to say and you look Excellent!...to which I reply Oh go on! Silence…she didn’t bite. Quote bubble over my head read no I really meant that…please do go on;). Seriously the reason for me writing about this is to just say YES I am excellent! I feel thankful, grateful, happy, healthy and well…excellent…and I am not afraid to say it out loud. I am not afraid that being positive might jinx where we are right now and I must add where we are right now is a great place!

I volunteer in Jerzy’s grade 1 class most Tuesday mornings after which we go out for lunch together and then I drop her back off at school at 1:00 pm. One of these special Tuesdays not too long she decided it would be fun to go home for lunch and so that is what we did. During the lunch hour we somehow got on a conversation about jobs to which ended with her saying to me so you are just a Mom?

YEP!, I replied, as I thought I love my job!

Here are a few images I was able to capture recently while doing my job…

I baked cookies today and when Aleksei tried the dough he scrunched up his nose and said yuck! My first thought was oh no I have been busted! But when the cookies came out of the oven he tried one then gathered up a hand full, poured himself a glass of milk and happily went off to the family room. YES!!…the addition of hemp hearts and flax seed to my recipe continues to go unnoticed!

So in case you have been under a rock…no actually in case you are not my Facebook friend you might not know that Aleksei and his team mates from the Corydon Comets 14A1 have made it to the finals! We ended the season in first place, won our first playoff game but then got sent down to the B side where we had to win…was it 3 or 4 in a row…seems like 10…but the boys did it and we start the best of 5 final tonight! This is Aleksei first full season back after beating the s**t out of Ewing’s Sarcoma! That best boy of mine continues to amaze me each and every day. Can I hear another Bam! Ewing’s Sarcoma..in your face!

After we won on Wednesday night to advance to the finals I updated my Facebook status to read:

Well I have never done that before! I left the rink…yes you heard it I LEFT THE RINK! There was about 4 seconds left in the game and we were tied at one and the tears started to fall. I knew that OT was not going to be good for me and in the end no matter if we won or lost I would be the one Mom in the rink crying. So I left and went and sat in the truck. I was glad I did it because by the time I got to the truck I was full out sobbing. These strong emotions came about as a result of me feeling like Aleksei and his team getting to the finals would be ONE MORE VICTORY OVER CANCER! And I really wanted that to happen…AND IT DID!!! I was only settled into the truck for about 2 minutes before I saw Don with a big smile on his face running across the parking lot waving his arms in the air! Our captain had scored the winning goal in OT!!! I am sitting at home now with a glass of wine…emotions in check and almost ready to go off into happy hockey mom la-la land! Thanks for all the Comet love ♥

Anyone looking for some great hockey to watch this weekend (besides forecast is for some snow and cooler temps…might as well be in a rink;)) let me know…I will send you in the right direction at the right time!

GO COMETS GO!

Well I certainly have let myself get sidetracked! Back to the reference to ping pong…we are renovating our basement! I know you wonder OK…so? Well I tell you this only because I think the reason we decided on the renovation is a lets face it Aleksei gets whatever he wants and so by default so does Jerzy kind of a story. I need an acronym for that. So anyway when Aleksei started Grade 9 at St. Paul’s High School he was delighted to find out they have a ping pong table for the students use. I started to really enjoy his play by play accounts of the game he had that day. As Christmas approached and I asked Aleksei what he might like as a gift… I bet you can guess what he asked for…yep…a ping pong table. So a ping pong table was bought (had NO idea they were that expensive nor how much more expensive it was yet to become) and it went down to our unfinished basement where we all joined in on the fun of playing ping pong. But we had to face facts…the basement was an eye sore. So hence the renovation which in the end will increase the price of the ping pong table by about $40,000.
